The perfect solution

| This mount is working great for me. It is easy to put in and remove from the vent so there is nothing permanently installed in the car that screams, "break in and steal my gps." It puts my garmin nuvi high enough to easily see the screen without blocking my view of the road. The plastic does feel a little cheap (hence the price), but it has held up great for the last three months I have owned it. Before you buy one, however, I would recommend you look at the depth of the slats on your vent to make sure they are not longer than about 1/2" so the claw will fit over them. |
Outstanding

| Outstanding. Bought this one and one of the clothes pin styles trying to find a good option (Both are inexepensive). The spring clamp style clips are much more effective on this unit than the other models available with clothes pin style clips. Unit clamps on vents and is much more sturdy. Just bought two more to leave in other vehicles (even though they also change out easier than the clothes pin style). |
Now this is a great vent mount

| I tried the Arkon mount and in short order the clothes pin latches became loose and it kept falling off the vent. The OnCourse model not only has a swivel feature that you can use to position the GPS exactly where you want it but it also has spring loaded grips to securely hold the mount to the vent! Dirt cheap for what it does and you don't have to mess up your car gluing on a mount holder. |
Much better than the Arkon GN047 vent mount!

Originally, I bought the Arkon GN047 mount (also on Amazon) and it worked ok for the first few days but I noticed the more I tried to remove the vent mount, the worse the grip got. The Arkon uses a plastic clamp (kind of like alligator clips) to grip the vent louvers and the more you squeeze them, the less tight they will clamp when you release it. If the clamps used spring tension, it'd be more effective. Plastic just gets worn out after awhile. So, after a week or so, if I drove over bumps, my GPS would move around. If I hit anything remotely close to a pothole, my entire GPS unit would practically fly off the vent!! And getting it back into the vent is near impossible while driving!!
So, I needed a better solution. I read the reviews for the IG-A03 vent mount and was surprised that this product was given slightly less stars than the Arkon. But what people said about it attracted me. The deal maker was that the spring loaded clips held the mount on the vent louvers better. And hey, they're cheap enough to give it a try right?
I bought a couple and tried them out. Mounting was just as easy as the Arkon and I was ready to go. While the GPS is connected, fiddling with it while driving felt just as good as the Arkon but whoa...here comes a big bump in the road! Be prepared to catch your GPS...oh wait...it actually stayed on the vent and didn't move at all?!? AWESOME!!
My only complaint is that the ball that is supposed to the socket on your GPS mount may be a few hairs too small. My GPS seems to swivel around too easily. Although it never moves on its own when driving, when I adjust the GPS, it feels like it's moving too easily. I like having a nice firm grip while swiveling the GPS. Not a big deal but functionally, it still works great. Much better than the Arkon! |
Perfect for '08 Focus and Nuvi 765t

| I was debating for months about going through the hassle of finding and installing an in-dash gps unit, when someone mentioned that there were alternate ways of mounting a portable GPS unit than the windshield. I found this product, saw good reviews, and for 5 dollars decided to give it a shot. Boy was I glad I did. This product, combined with the Garmin Nuvi 765t, is absolutely perfect for my 2008 Ford Focus. I can position it exactly where I want, and it doesn't block anything necessary. The only drawback is it is a little difficult to remove, and by difficult I mean not super quick. But it is very secure and places my GPS in the ideal location. For so cheap, it feels solid and I would definitely buy it again. Highly recommended! |
Good solution to avoid windshield mount

Holds my Garmin in a good position - better than windshield mount.
Fits on many makes and models as I have found on 6 different makes of rentals when I travel.
Seems like it is fragile but so far has held up to some rough handling as well as being squeezed into a suitcase 6 times. |
a great, inexpensive alternative...

This item is a great, inexpensive alternative to the worthless mounting disk that came with my Garmin 765T. It can be a little difficult to remove from your car's vent, however it's fine once you get the hang of it, although I leave it mounted in my car 90%+ of the time and have only moved it to my wife's car just 3x. The key is removing the GPS from the mount first, then just taking your time.
While I'd recommend this item, it's probably not the best product if you plan on removing it from your vehicle daily.
By the way, the 2 vehicles I use the product with are a '05 325i BMW and '06 Lexus 250 IS. |
